One thing I have noticed about TD is that they use a lot of arp in their songs. Which I really like, because it pops out of the mix in a very pleasant way. Most ambient style artists use pads all the time, and that's fine. But it just has this refreshing sound. I don't know if that's what i'm hearing. But it just has a lot of color to it.
